MAC freebies and promos
I mentioned it before, but cosmetics brands promote a bit more aggressively in Korea. Even the high end and department store brands aren’t averse to throwing samples, freebies and loyalty card schemes at you and they track their customers’ purchases and activity closely. Chanel, MAC, Dior, Benefit, Armani, and probably all the other prestige brands have showered me with good service in Korea. Partly it’s the culture (Korean’s chase value for money) and no brand can afford to be left behind.
MAC Korea suprised me with their generosity towards its customers because I don’t think I’ve ever got a freebie in the UK or states. I’ve got samples on request from make-up artists but nothing more. In Korea they regularly send out great promo booklets which I love to get and pore over which contain new and existing product information, make-up artist tips and trend news. Last week I got a free 30ml Strobe Cream, much more than a piffling little trial size.
At Christmas, they surpassed themselves with this make-up bag. No purchase necessary, I just filled in a customer card which I got in the post, took it to my local counter and they gave me the bag. First thing, this thing is BIG. A proper vanity case, as big as the Lovely Lana bag from Benefit. It’s really sturdy and well made with removable dividers on the inside, elasticated loops for holding bottles upright in transit and great brush holder compartments in the lid which has a thoughtful plastic flap which keeps brush heads covered whilst the bag is closed, thereby stopping any stray powder or residue falling into your bag and causing a dusty mess. In fact this freebie is BETTER than the Benefit bag which is similar, expensive and not half as well made. Count an impressed and happy shopper. I always say a freebie’s not worth doing unless it’s done well.
