Review: Jo Wood Organics Tula Nourishing Body Cream

Posted in body products, Jo Wood Organics, review by konglishbeauty on December 7, 2009

Jo Wood Organics is an organic beauty range from Jo Wood, the former partner of Rolling Stones member Ronnie Wood. The range is currently all body products and some have Eco Cert organic certification. I have tried most of the range and my review is for the Tula Nourishing Body Cream. The cream comes in a 200ml pump bottle and is also available in the Langa fragrance.

Quote from the Jo Wood Organics website:

“these creams are lovely and light upon application but they really moisturise the skin The fragrance lasts all day long and your skin feels beautifully supple”

From the tips of your toes to the nape of your neck, this lotion will help to bring dull skin back to life.

I’m afraid I take issue with the very name of the product. This is defintely NOT a “body cream”. I know there’s no industry standard for definitions in cosmetics but a cream is mostly understood to be a thick emollient moisturiser with a semi-solid/liquid consistency. This product is what I’d call a lotion or milk. It’s thin, runny and definitely a liquid.

This leads to my 2nd criticism and major flaw for this product: it’s not very moisturising. Yes really. I used and finished this product in September, when the air in Korea was not dry. I was not suffering from the major flaking and dryness issues that I currently am experiencing. I used it when my skin was in good normal condition. Even then, when I applied this product it felt thin on application and half an hour later my skin felt a bit tight as if I had not put any moisturiser on. I applied it generously and didn’t skimp on quantity. I used up the whole bottle but there was no change. I had to supplement it with a plain drugstore Nivea moisturiser in the evening as my shins and arms felt tight.

+ points:

  • Hygienic airtight pump packaging, helps keep organic ingredients stable
  • lovely complex floral scent using essential oils

– points:

  • is a lotion not a cream
  • NOT MOISTURISING! Major fail.
  • £24 for 200ml. Very expensive and poor value for money.

I’ve absolutely no use for a moisturiser that doesn’t moisturise. Completely pointless product. I must add that this product does NOT reflect the rest of the Jo Wood Organics range. I tried and enjoyed using the salt scrubs and cleansing body mousses. The body oil and bath oil are also absolutely gorgeous high quality bathing products that I can thoroughly rave about. I can’t review them thoroughly as I used them over a year ago (and didn’t take notes) but I will repurchase them when I’m back in the UK. Just skip the Nourishing Body “Cream”.

I have to disagree with the review. I find Jo Wood body lotions (and yes it is a lotion not a cream) to be very moisturising. I have been using it for several days now and my skin feels so soft and it smells gorgeous!!

I’m glad that it worked for you, unfortunately it didn’t do much for my skin. It did feel nice on but the moisture effect did not last long and my skin felt dry and tight soon afterwards. I like the other products in the range, just not this product!
